CarbonRun Featured on NBC News: A Natural Climate Solution in Action

A Win-Win for Climate and Biodiversity
NBC News recently highlighted CarbonRun's pioneering work in a feature by climate reporter Chase Cain. Traveling to Nova Scotia, Cain explored our innovative river alkalinity enhancement process—an approach that not only restores river ecosystems but also removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
NBC's coverage, titled Saving Salmon Can Be a Win-Win for Climate Change, emphasized how our method accelerates a natural process using limestone to counteract pollution and improve aquatic habitats. Cain’s visit to our project site showcased how river liming benefits biodiversity, particularly salmon populations, while playing a crucial role in carbon removal.
What’s the Catch?
In his own words, Chase Cain remarked, "I asked that question multiple times to the team at CarbonRun, and I asked other climate scientists too. Guess what? There isn't one—except for the salmon!"
Our approach is simple: by introducing natural limestone into rivers, we reduce acidity and enhance their ability to capture and store CO₂ as bicarbonate, where it can remain for millennia. This nature-based solution offers a scalable, effective way to combat climate change while restoring freshwater ecosystems.
The full interview dives deeper into the science, the impact on local communities, and how our process could contribute to large-scale carbon removal efforts.
As awareness grows around innovative climate solutions, we’re excited to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in carbon removal.
Stay tuned for more updates as we scale up our work and expand our impact.
