Location: Hybrid role, with headquarters in Halifax, Nova Scotia

Pay: $25-30 CAD per hour, commensurate with experience

Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field visits to collect water samples, perform on-site measurements, and analyze data to ensure the efficiency of our carbon capture processes.  With your expertise in environmental science or a related field, you will play a vital role in assessing water quality parameters and contributing to our mission of combating climate change.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect environmental chemistry samples at field sites throughout the province.
  • Install, maintain, and decommission environmental monitoring equipment at field sites.
  • Work to ensure minimal data loss and equipment issues by closely following and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Perform on-site measurements and tests to assess quality parameters.
  • Work with scientific team to conduct research activities surrounding water chemistry, freshwater acidification, carbon cycling, carbon drawdown, hydrology, and aquatic biology.
  • Utilize specialized equipment and instrumentation for environmental sample collection and analysis.
  • Record and maintain detailed documentation of sample collection locations, dates, times, and environmental conditions.
  • Conduct data entry, quality assurance and control, and data analysis.
  • Analyze and interpret data and prepare comprehensive reports summarizing findings and observations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality control measures to ensure the reliability of data.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations during fieldwork and lab activities.
  • Ensure lab space, data, and equipment inventories are well-organized and in order according to management plans.
  • Engage community stakeholders and act as a liaison to cultivate positive relationships.
  • Assist with coordination of permit applications, community outreach events, open houses, and educational programs to promote awareness of our technology and its environmental benefits.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Earth or Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related experience.
  • Proven experience in fieldwork and lab work, preferably in environmental monitoring or quality assessment.
  • Familiarity with environmental sampling techniques, equipment, and protocols.
  • Proficiency in conducting environmental quality analyses using standard laboratory methods.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) with precision.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and under variable weather conditions.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • First aid trained or willing to obtain certification.
  • Passion for CarbonRun’s mission and commitment to making a positive impact in the community.
  • Knowledge of global carbon dynamics, carbon dioxide removal approaches, and modelling are considered assets.
